Is Artificial Intelligence the Next Frontier of Harnessing the Data Revolution for Sustainable Development?
The first ever UN World Data Forum was held in Cape Town, South Africa this week. The Forum itself is a reminder of how far we have come since the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were agreed upon by 193 countries in September 2015. In Cape Town, governments, businesses, and civil society are accelerating their work to use data innovations to drive decision-making and action. This work to measure and drive progress toward achieving the SDGs is already laying the foundation for the data communities’ next opportunity: using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to harness the incredible amounts of data collected, and utilized it in revolutionary ways for sustainable development.
