Action Alert: Rally to Demand Action from the Senate

Everytown for Gun Safety

Recess Rally! Join Us Next Weekend to Demand the Senate Take Action on Gun Violence.Wow. Our Presidential Gun Sense Forum just wrapped up in Des Moines, IA. We had some amazing conversations about gun safety with 16 presidential candidates.

Now, we’re ready to rally. The U.S. Senate may be on their summer recess, but we’re not, and we’re demanding action. Next weekend, in every state across the country, Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action, and the Everytown Survivor Network are organizing Recess Rallies to let our Senators know that they must take action to end gun violence in America.

As we get out there to call on our Senators to pass background checks on all gun sales and a strong Red Flag law, join a rally near you so our demands are heard loud and clear!

We’ve organized more than 100 rallies across the country for August 17th and 18th, because it’s LONG past time for the Senate to take action to pass stronger gun laws. And these rallies will only be successful with you out there with us. So sign up today and get ready for your Recess Rally >>

Action Alert: TPS for Syria – Signature needed!

Next week, Syrians with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in the U.S. will hear whether they’re at risk of deportation to a warzone.

There aren’t many options left for Syrians fleeing humanitarian crises created by eight years of war — from Trump destroying U.S. refugee resettlement to the Muslim Ban.

We have to do everything we can to protect TPS for Syria. Because if we can get loud enough, we can force Congress to block the Homeland Security and State Departments from deporting Syrians back to a warzone.

Can you demand your members of Congress act NOW to protect TPS for Syria?

Syrian families with TPS were already forced to flee nearly a decade of incessant attacks from the Assad regime, Iran, Russia, the Islamic State, and the United States’ bombing campaigns in cities like Raqqa. [1]

And instead of reaching welcoming borders after often treachorous journeys, Syrians continue to face bigoted Muslim, refugee, and asylum bans.

That’s why TPS for Syria is SO IMPORTANT. As one of the only options left, it is a lifeline for Syrian families seeking refuge.

The stakes could not be higher. If we do not save TPS for Syria, Syrians will be vulnerable to deportation — to a warzone and humanitarian crises of mass food insecurity, lack of access to health care, and torture — that the U.S. hasn’t meaningfully helped stop.

So far, the most effective strategy to pressure the Homeland Security and State Departments to keep TPS for Syria — is for Congress to make noise, issue statements and defend TPS. And that’s why we have to get LOUD so Congress hears us today.

Please urge your members of Congress to send a clear message to the Trump administration: TPS for Syria NOW!

Syrians who already face insurmountable heartbreak, trauma, and suffering from displacement must not be forcefully deported to a warzone they worked so hard to flee. People seeking refuge should be welcomed in our communities, and have the option to voluntarily return home when and if conditions are safe. Until we can fix this broken system that embraces cruelty instead of human security, we have to protect each other. And that means turning up and getting loud when it most counts. This is one of those times.

Thank you for working for peace,

Stephen and the Win Without War team

Action Alert: End Global Pandemics

We can end today’s pandemics. We can prevent future pandemics. We can save lives with health systems that address economic, racial and gender inequity while improving our trade and diplomatic standing.

  • Rapid spread of a new or re-emerging infectious disease is highly likely in the coming years and could cost the lives of tens of millions of people.
  • Drug resistance is decreasing our ability to fight deadly infections. A catastrophic event could destabilize countries and economic losses could top $3.5 trillion.
  • Climate change is predicted to magnify the deadly impact and risks of infectious disease by driving severe food and water shortages, expanding the path of vector-borne diseases globally, and worsening extreme weather events that provide fertile ground for outbreaks.
  • With global inequality rising, deadly epidemics disproportionately affect LGBTQ people, people of color, the poor, migrants, women, and young people.

The United States has led the world in confronting crises from AIDS to Ebola to the flu. Doing so has driven scientific advancements and improved wellbeing in the U.S. and abroad. But instead of advancing global health, the Administration recently proposed funding cuts, putting our $100 billion investment at risk.

In a time of rising conflict, displacement, and climate change, we need forward-looking U.S. global health leadership. Presidential candidates should commit to developing and implementing a bold initiative to stop the pandemics of today and tomorrow to improve economic prosperity and global wellbeing.

We call on all Presidential candidates to adopt a plan that renews American leadership to:

  1. Double U.S. investment in a transformative whole-of-government effort to both end global AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and ensure low- and middle-income countries can detect disease and advance the health of their people before outbreaks become pandemics. Funding must be additional to other programs that build a healthy and resilient world.
  2. Recognize climate change is affecting health and invest in early warning systems and adaptation efforts to address disease challenges posed by a warming planet as part of a bold climate strategy.
  3. Focus not just on protecting American lives but on lifting the health of the most vulnerable globally through strategic investments in health workforce, infrastructure, laboratories, and data systems.
  4. Harness the best of American innovation, research, and technology to fight pandemics while ensuring trade agreements and intellectual property rules expand (not undermine) affordable access globally.
  5. Challenge other countries to join us in a global effort to stop pandemics—using all avenues from the UN to direct diplomacy to push wealthy countries to match our increased international funding and low- and middle-income countries to increase domestic investment.
  6. Ensure U.S. foreign assistance is grounded in anti-discriminatory, human rights-based approaches, and is responsive to the needs of the people affected.

Action Alert: Take The Pledge Now!

Action Alert: Tell Congress to Declare A Climate Emergency Now!

The planet is in crisis, and our leaders are asleep at the wheel. We urgently need a massive effort to reverse global warming and protect humanity and the natural world from collapse.

Now is the time for action. Now, while there is still a chance to make a real difference. Don’t wait. Send a letter to your Representative and Senator asking them to wake up and declare a climate emergency and take action that matches the scale of the emergency now, before it’s too late.

Here’s what you can say to your Members of Congress:

We are in a climate and ecological emergency. We urgently need a massive effort to reverse global warming and protect humanity and the natural world from collapse. It’s time for Congress to join over 740 local governments in 16 countries around the world in telling the truth about the climate. I urge you to sign on as a sponsor of the Climate Emergency Declaration.

I urge Congress to Declare a Climate Emergency and:

  • Mobilize people, resources, and companies on a scale larger than that of World War II to reverse global warming and prevent further catastrophe. This must be a wide-scale, inclusive, and equitable transformation and rebuilding of our society to one based on renewable energy, dignified employment, and economic opportunity.
  • Democratically transition to a zero greenhouse gas emissions economy in ten years or less. This must be a just transition for workers and frontline communities that keeps fossil fuels in the ground.
  • Restore a safe and healthy climate for future generations
  • Hold a National People’s Assembly on the climate emergency
  • Protect the entire web of life by working to end the sixth mass extinction. Protection of biodiversity is critical to our survival.
  • Declare a Climate Emergency and protect all Americans, all humanity, and all living things, so that we can be safe for generations to come!
  • Find other ways to help here!

Action Alert: National #ClimateEmergency

The planet is in crisis, and our leaders are asleep at the wheel. We urgently need a massive effort to reverse global warming and protect humanity and the natural world from collapse.

Now is the time for action. Now, while there is still a chance to make a real difference. Don’t wait. Send a letter to your Representative and Senator asking them to wake up and declare a climate emergency and take action that matches the scale of the emergency now, before it’s too late.

Here’s how you can respond to the Climate Emergency

Join us as we call on our representatives to co-sponsor the #ClimateEmergency Declaration introduced by Representative Ocasio-Cortez, Senator Sanders, and Representative Blumenauer.

Whether you decide to sign the petition, to visit your representative, or to organize an action, please sign up for at least one of the steps below — this moment needs all of us!

Visiting your Representative’s office lets them know that climate needs to be front and center on their agenda. You can:

  • Go by yourself or with a friend, and drop off a letter asking your Representative to declare a Climate Emergency. Try to get an answer from their staff about whether they will co-sponsor the Climate Emergency Declaration.
  • Take photos, and try to take a short video.
  • Print and share this Fact Sheet and this Frequently Asked Questions document with your Representative.
  • Make sure to call your Representative’s office to follow up a couple days after your visit. Ask their staff if the Representative will sign on as a co-sponsor of the Climate Emergency Declaration.

Sign up to organize an office visit at, and you’ll get a link where other people can RSVP to join you.

You can also find a list of office visits that have already been scheduled here, about halfway down the page. Don’t know who your U.S. Representative is? Find your representative here.

We will push our U.S. Representatives to address the Climate Emergency by organizing actions outside their offices the week of July 15.

Whether you are a group of 4 people, a group of 8 people, or a group of 100 people, we need as many actions as possible demanding that our representatives pledge their support for a Climate Emergency Declaration.

Sign up to hold an action at, and you’ll get an online sign up form that people can use to RSVP.

Action Alert: Build Congressional Support for Global Climate Restoration

Build Congressional Support for Global Climate Restoration
Call on Members of the House of Representatives to Co-Sponsor H. Con. Res.35

The U.S. Congress has the responsibility to establish laws and policies to respond to the climate emergency. On Earth Day 2019, Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) introduced H. Con. Res. 35 House Resolution on Climate Restoration.  Rep. Raskin stated, “On Earth Day, I was proud to introduce a Resolution expressing the sense of Congress that America is committed to ensuring a safe and healthy climate for future generations and to creating solutions for Climate Restoration. Together we must fight the devastating effects of climate change taking hold across the globe.”

The time has come for concerned Americans to mobilize their Members of Congress to support the global endeavor to return the Earth’s climate systems to the safe and healthy state from which humanity and our natural world evolved.  A global Climate Restoration program can return the atmospheric CO2 to safe levels of less than 300 parts per million (ppm) by 2050 and restore sufficient Arctic ice to prevent permafrost melt and the resulting disastrous methane emissions. Climate Restoration is complementary to ongoing CO2 emission-reduction efforts.
