Seeking A+ Presidential Candidates on Climate Restoration

This week we learn more about our presidential candidates, but will learn more about these candidates and their commitment to Climate Restoration?

Based on the last debate, no. In fact, there was not a single question on climate change over the course of a two-hour debate on October 15.  But as Axios reported, the backlash on social media, even from some of the candidates themselves, elevated the issue after the debate.

Join our Pre-Debate Live Event on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, 8 PM EST, to learn about the CREA President Candidates Report Card and the next steps to demand action.

We can hope this Democratic debate hosted by the Washington Post will be different.

But hope isn’t enough. Action is critical.

In fact, action is a key step in moving past climate anxiety toward hope, according to this article in Outside.

“It’s not hope that drives us into action, it’s action that drives us into hope,” says Rebecca Solnit.”

Do you want presidential candidates to take action?

The great news is it’s never been easier to sound the alarm on our climate emergency and take, positive, meaningful action toward change. This week leading up to and after the presidential debate is a perfect time to get involved.

I am hosting a Pre-Debate Live Event on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 EST. Join us online for a discussion of social media engagement during the debate and bold action we can take together after the debate.

We have a strong panel of climate restoration experts participating:

  • Dr. Paul Zeitz, Founder, Build A Movement 2020,
  • Margaret Klein Salamon, PhD, Founding Director, The Climate Mobilization,
  • John Spies, Extinction Rebellion-NYC
  • and other special guests in the hour before the Democratic Debate at 8:00 PM EST

Crea Presidential Candidates Report Card

We must work together to elevate climate restoration and demand our candidates become A+ students of Climate Restoration. Because right now, as our last CREA Bipartisan Presidential Candidates Report Card showed, no candidate is above a C+.

That’s not good enough.

C+ won’t solve this climate emergency. Climate questions must dominate the debate stage. Candidates with bold plans that will actually solve the climate emergency and restore our planet’s health must emerge before we vote.

The first primaries are coming soon.

Now is the time to demand more.

Join us online to learn more about climate restoration, debate watch strategies and how easy we’ve made it for you to get involved and make a difference.

New Climate Change Report Card Warns Iowa Voters:

Democratic Candidates Ambitions Are Too Low

14 November 2019 (Washington, DC)–Three months before the Iowa caucuses, a recent CNN poll shows climate change is a top priority for Iowa’s likely Democratic voters. Build A Movement 2020 today released the Climate Restoration Emergency Action (CREA) Report Card that demonstrates poor performance on essential climate action by all leading candidates–sending a warning to Iowa caucus-goers.

In releasing the climate change report card, Dr. Paul Zeitz, Founder, Build A Movement 2020 said: “Democratic voters in Iowa and around the country should be alarmed by the lack of ambition to address climate change by the Presidential candidates–all are failing to respond adequately to our climate emergency. Climate Restoration Emergency Action (CREA) is affordable and achievable. Let’s join forces with all Americans and vigorously demand action to restore our climate.”

Climate Restoration Report Card

KEY FINDINGS OF CLIMATE CHANGE REPORT CARD:

  • Among the leading Democratic candidates, Senator Sanders received the highest overall grade (C+ grade), narrowly outperforming his leading rivals. Former Vice President Biden, Mayor Buttigieg, and Senator Warren all got C grades.
  • Most 2020 candidates agree we face a climate emergency. Alarmingly, however, no leading Democratic candidates have developed ambitious plans to transition to a net-zero carbon economy fast enough to avoid catastrophic climate effects.
  • Among top-tier candidates, only Biden and Buttigieg begin to support effective action to deal with the damage already done, committing to use natural and technological solutions for carbon dioxide removal–both essential to remove the one trillion tons of excess CO2 in the atmosphere.
  • None of the leading candidates have plans to implement Climate Restoration Emergency Action (CREA). Only Andrew Yang has proposed specific climate restoration solutions critical to winning the fight against climate change.

CREA is a bold, whole-of-government and global effort to catalyze a fast transition to a net-zero carbon economy by 2030, massive carbon dioxide removal, and climate restoration by 2050– thereby ensuring the survival of humanity and our natural world.

The CREA Report Card goes beyond other report cards which focus only on switching from fossil fuels to renewables, and do not evaluate candidates’ commitments on reversing global warming and achieving climate restoration.

Build A Movement 2020 is a newly forming political movement that connects political parties, movements, coalitions, organizations, and individuals to solve the existential threats facing humanity.  This Report Card was co-produced with ClimateChangesEverything.org
